Committee of Occupational Safety And Health Science Education

The goals of the COSAHSE Accreditation Standard are to:

i) Define a best practice standard for practical occupational health and safety management systems

ii) Reinforce the participation of all stakeholders in the promotion of the Internal Responsibility System

iii) Foster workplaces without occupational health and safety management systems to work towards choosing an occupational health and safety management system

iv) Reassure employers who have already implemented an occupational health and safety management system to involve in the uninterrupted improvement of their system

v) Help employers to comprehend health and safety in their sector

Accreditation Policies

A.) The institution has a widely published mission statement—approved by its governing board—that articulates a purpose appropriate for an institution of higher learning, gives direction for its efforts, and derives from, and is generally understood by, its community.

B) The institution defines mission fulfillment in the context of its purpose, characteristics, and expectations. Guided by that definition, it articulates institutional accomplishments or outcomes that represent an acceptable threshold or extent of mission fulfillment.

C) The institution's governance and administrative structures promote effective leadership and support collaborative processes that enable the institution to fulfill it's mission.

D) The institution upholds and protects its integrity.

E) The institution's goals for student learning outcomes are clearly stated for each educational program and make effective assessment possible.

F) The institution values and supports effective teaching.

G) The institution creates effective learning environments.

H) The institution's learning resources support student learning and effective teaching.

I) The institution's resource base supports its educational programs and its plans for maintaining and strengthening their quality in the future.

J) The institution's ongoing evaluation processes provide reliable evidence of institutional effectiveness that clearly informs strategies for continuous improvement.

K) All levels of planning align with the institution's mission, thereby enhancing its capacity to fulfill that mission

General Complaints

The COSAHSE is committed to offering our stakeholders and the general public with a high level of service. The general complaints policy is designed to ensure that matters raised by any individual are responded to quickly, transparently, and fairly in accordance with our policies

  • Ensuring COSAHSE’s review of complaints will be honest, unbiased, and respectful to all parties.
  • COSAHSE will ensure complaints are handled in a timely manner. Complaints will be accepted within two business days.
  • COSAHSE will offer the complainant with ongoing communication and updates regarding the status of their complaint until the complaint is closed.
  • COSAHSE will handle complaints as an input into its continuous improvement process.
